“LAS CANTERAS” BEACH

Las Canteras has the UNE-EN ISO 14001, AENOR certificate, in Spain only have it the beach of La Concha, in San Sebastian, and the beach La Victoria, in Cadiz for the implementation of a comprehensive management system for the environment.
”La Barra”, a sand and limestone deposition that runs parallel to the shore, providing shelter against the north swell and giving the beach its personality. Formerly known as the beach La Barra, because of the riff (barra) emerging from the water. Subsequently, it was exploited as a quarry to extract the rock that was used, for numerous buildings in the city and also for the Cathedral of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. In remembrance of this practice, now abandoned, the name survives today on the beach of Las Canteras
The Alfredo Kraus Auditorium
The building is the final shot of one of the perspectives of the city on the Atlantic Ocean. Designed by Oscar Tusquets as an isolated fortress, autonomous and different from the nearest architectural context, is a work of enormous dimensions, whose plant sits on a base of volcanic rock which the sculptor Juan Bordes converted with his creations in a inhabited one.
